How professional buyers should decide
Do not use “18K is always better” or “14K is always more durable” as a shortcut. Working properties change with alloy formulation, dimensions, geometry, construction, and finishing.
- Define the product: end, post, ring, clicker, chain, or assembled piece.
- Define the karat and color: yellow, rose, or white, with exact alloy information available to the business.
- Define the construction: solid-through alloy, hollow construction, plated surface, or mixed-component assembly must not be described as though they are the same.
- Define the dimensions: gauge, wearable length, diameter, setting height, stone size, and orientation affect the result.
- Define evidence: identify which record supports the metal description and which products it covers.
U.S. description and disclosure logic
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission explains that karat marking communicates how much pure gold is present. Its Jewelry Guides also emphasize truthful representation of metallic content, construction, durability, origin, and other material characteristics.
Do not call a plated product “14K gold” or “18K gold” as though the item is composed throughout of that alloy. Do not use “solid gold” for hollow construction. Describe plating and mixed components clearly.

What exact color and alloy formulation is offered for the intended design?
Is the piece composed throughout of the stated alloy, hollow, plated, or mixed?
